17 policemen including 8 sub-inspectors suspended for land grab, extortion and leaving after taking bribe

In Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, major action has been taken against 17 policemen in 3 days due to extortion, bribery, corruption and other complaints. This includes 7 sub inspectors and the remaining head constables. Along with this, the police has started investigation against many inspectors.

In the first case, two sub-inspectors posted at Bilhaur police station of Western Circle of Kanpur had taken a bribe of Rs 38 thousand in exchange for releasing the son of the accused in the case of theft of 5 quintals of pulses. Due to this both have been suspended. In the second case, in Patara town of Ghatampur police station of Southern Circle of Kanpur, 8 policemen were suspended for taking bribe in a land dispute and sending 8 people of one party to jail without investigation.

To settle the matter, the policemen had also collected Rs 10,000 from one party and Rs 40,000 from the other party. After this, investigation has also been started against the Inspector and Additional Inspector. In the action taken on Thursday, a sub-inspector and three constables were suspended. Traffic policemen deployed in PRV in the city had stopped a person and tried to extort money from him.

Also, all the accused policemen had gone to sleep before the end of their duty. Action has been taken if the matter is found true in the investigation. Similarly, the inspector posted at Bilhaur police station submitted the final report in the investigation of a case. None of the six accused were caught. When the allegations were found true in the investigation, the inspector was suspended. In the second case, Sub Inspector and Rajpal have been suspended for wrongly writing FIR, blackmailing people and abusing and assaulting innocent people in the police station.

Additional Commissioner said this regarding the matter

Additional Commissioner Harishchandra said that action has been taken against 17 policemen in different cases on Thursday. If such complaints come in future and the allegations are proved in the investigation, then this action will continue.
