15 people including former branch president of Saurashtra State Bank were jailed, CBI court sentenced in this case

A CBI court on Saturday sentenced the then manager of the Naroda Road branch of Saurashtra National Bank, Ahmedabad, and 14 others to jail. The Allahabad CBI court sentenced 15 accused, including the branch manager, to imprisonment for 3 to 5 years and fined Rs 1,000. In addition, a total fine of Rs 15.35 million was imposed in the bank fraud case. The CBI immediately registered a case against the accused on September 11, 2001.

BJ Jala, then branch manager of the Saurashtra State Bank, Naroda Road, Ahmedabad, allegedly hatched the criminal conspiracy along with all other accused. Abuse of a public servant’s official position in public housing financing matters against individuals and others. Defrauded by sanctioning home loan of Rs 162 crore on false grounds.

15 defendants including branch manager were punished

The Allahabad Special Judge’s Court No. 01, which handled the CBI case, passed the verdict against 15 accused, including Becharbhai Ganeshbhai Jala, then branch manager of Ahmedabad State Bank in Saurashtra, and 14 private persons. These include Mukesh Natwar Brahmbhatt, Amit Ajit Vyas, Rajendra Natwarlal Brahmbhatt, Chetan Jagdish Bhatt, Karan Vikram Mahida, Rajesh Arvind Patel, Mahesh Muralidhar Sabnani, Chinmay Girishchandra Trivedi, Jayesh Shyamlal Aswani, Rajnikant Chhotalal Upadhyay, Nilesh Sureshchandra The names of Shah, Vimal K and Hemendra (El Shah) are also included.

Several borrowers provided documents charging BG Jala. Investigation found that he, in his capacity as the then Ahmedabad branch manager, fraudulently and dishonestly failed to verify the loan eligibility of the said borrowers as part of a criminal conspiracy. He abused his official position as a civil servant by approving home loans to borrowers.

Court drops charges against nine defendants

Following the completion of the investigation, the CBI filed nine separate chargesheets against the accused, including those convicted. Judgments have been made in 5 of the 9 special cases. Of those, charges against nine defendants were dropped because their sentences had expired during the trial. At the same time, after trial, the court found the above 15 defendants guilty and sentenced them.
