Cyclone Dana, which hit Odisha and West Bengal on Friday, caused massive damage. Cyclone Dana hit the Dhamra coast near Odisha with a speed of about 120 kilometers per hour, followed by landslides that continued for about three hours. At the same time, the areas affected by this landing also suffered great damage. Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister said on Sunday that a total of 35.95 lakh people have been affected by Cyclone Dana.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that a total of 35.95 lakh people in Odisha were affected by cyclone Dana and subsequent flooding in 14 districts. Pujari said 8,10,896 people have been evacuated to 6,210 cyclone relief centres. The worst-affected districts include Kendrapara, Balasore and Bhadrak, he said.

5,840 houses were completely damaged by floods

Speaking to reporters, Odisha’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister said there was no news of any casualties caused by the cyclone. He said, “As of 10:30 am on Sunday, evacuees have been given shelter at 1,178 cyclone relief centres. They are being provided with food and other necessities.

Cyclone Dana, which arrived on Friday morning, has affected residents of 1,671 gram villages in 108 blocks in 14 districts, he said. Pujari said that according to preliminary information, about 5,840 houses were completely or partially damaged due to the cyclone and subsequent flooding. At the same time, due to strong winds and heavy rain, many roads were blocked and emergency repair work was ongoing.

Cyclone Dana hits with speed of 110 kilometers

Severe cyclonic storm Dana, which hit the northwestern Bay of Bengal on Thursday, hit the northern Odisha coast near Bhitarkanika and Dhamra around 4 am on October 25. When it reaches the coast, the speed of a severe cyclonic storm is recorded at 100-110 kilometers per hour. At the same time, the wind gradually weakened and moved to the north-northwest. The Doppler weather radar at Paradip is continuously monitoring the situation.
