The Enforcement Directorate, or ED, on Thursday raided the residence of Santiago Martin, known as the “lottery king” of Chennai. It is understood that the ED raid was conducted to investigate money laundering activities. However, the Madras High Court has allowed the Enforcement Directorate to investigate Martin. According to sources, the ED raided Martin’s residence in Chennai and a few other places on Thursday.
Assets worth Rs 457 crore have been attached.
Last year, the central agency took strict action against Santiago Martin. Martin has been booked for allegedly fraudulently selling state lottery tickets in Kerala, causing a loss of over Rs 900 crore to the Sikkim government. Martin’s assets worth Rs 457 crore have been attached in the case. Let us tell you that the main distributor of Sikkim Lottery is Martin’s company “Future Gaming Solutions India Private Limited”.
The investigation continues since 2019
The ED has been investigating Santiago Martin, known as the “Lottery King” of Tamil Nadu, since 2019. Martin came into the limelight after it was revealed that his company Future Gaming purchased electoral bonds worth more than 1,300 crore rupees between 2019 and 2024 to donate to political parties.
